Ion Bank Energy Upgrades Help Earn the EPA’s Energy Star Certification

Energy Efficiency Upgrades Illuminate Six Ion Bank Branches

From Eversource/Energize CT: Ion Bank recently worked with Eversource on energy upgrades across its Naugatuck, Woodbury, Prospect, Cheshire, and Meriden locations. The measures helped the local branches earn the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) ENERGY STAR® Certification, a national distinction for energy efficiency, saving money, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and protecting the environment.

“Ion Bank aimed to provide a more comfortable environment for their staff and workstations. They wanted lighting that was softer yet efficient – with a seamless installment,” said Eversource Energy Efficiency spokesman Enoch Lenge. “We helped them upgrade to LEDs with minimal business interruptions at their branches.”

Eversource-authorized contractor, PTE Energy, installed LEDs and controls, such as occupancy sensors, to help the six locations save more than $15,000 in annual energy costs collectively. Ion Bank’s headquarter location, at 251 Church Street in Naugatuck, also upgraded its energy management system and heating and cooling units.

“We have a different business model than national banks. Our business depends on the success of the community,” said Normand Chouinard, Facilities Manager, Ion Bank. “These energy upgrades help us to reinvest dollars back into the community and local charities. We’re also lessening our environmental footprint, which is another way we give back.”

To make the projects happen, Ion Bank participated in Energize Connecticut’s Small Business Energy Advantage program to secure funding and incentives.

“They saw the value in zero-percent on-bill financing offered through the program. It justified the upfront cost of the upgrades,” said Stephen Possidento, PTE Energy. “Not to mention, the new lighting and ENERGY STAR stickers give a welcoming feel to customers who walk into the branches.”

Small Business Energy Advantage program highlights include:

  • Comprehensive energy-saving proposals that detail the measures to make businesses more energy efficient and projected savings
  • Financial incentives for efficient lighting, controls, and kitchen equipment like refrigerators, smart hoods, ovens and freezers
  • Zero-interest financing available to qualified customers. Loan payments are added right to their electric bills in one monthly payment
  • No upfront costs for installed upgrades
  • Two-year warranty on contractors’ parts and labor

Ion Bank is currently working to obtain its ENERGY STAR Certification at other locations.
