The Value of Microgrids in DC

D.C. to provide money for microgrid, district energy research

While researchers and scientists are still working on perfecting the technologies for microgrids, it has not slowed their implementation. The District of Columbia is providing grants for microgrids, district energy, and related research as part of an effort to its greenhouse gas emissions and add more renewable energy.

The grants, offered through D.C.’s District Department of the Environment (DDOE) as part of the Mayor’s Sustainable DC Plan, are intended to reduce emissions by 50 percent by 2032 and increase renewables to the point where they make up 50 percent of D.C.’s total energy use.
