A program is kicking off July 9 to provide solar panels to area veterans as a way of thanking them for their service.
Willis Allen Real Estate and Oakland-based nonprofit, GRID Alternatives San Diego, are set to install solar power for free at up to 10 local veteran’s homes as part of “Operation Solar for San Diego Troops.
The real estate company is donating time volunteering and more than $30,000 to support the nonprofit’s efforts to make solar power available to veterans who otherwise couldn’t afford it.
The effort includes free training for veterans in the installation of solar panels so they can get jobs in the solar industry.
