Selling energy efficiency: Leaders talk tactics
The Herald Sun, February 8, 2015
At a conference about increasing energy productivity, John Palmour, chief technology officer and co-founder of Cree, said energy efficiency is a very difficult sell.
“On its own, it is not sexy,” he said. “It does not motivate buyers.”
But when companies develop products that make energy efficiency about more than just saving, such as increasing the feeling of safety with brighter LED lighting or making vegetables look better in a retail environment, Palmour said this increases the likelihood of adoption.
Palmour was one of many speakers at Accelerate Energy Productivity 2030 in Raleigh, a conference designed to spark action and raise awareness about a presidential initiative to double U.S. energy productivity from 2010 levels by 2030.
