It’s time to put a spotlight on your home. Do you know how much it’s really costing you? October is National Energy Awareness Month, and Columbia Gas of Ohio is dedicating this week to energy efficiency.

Not sure where to start? Columbia Gas of Ohio now offers Home Energy Checkup, a new easy-to-use, interactive online resource for customers to learn how their home is performing and about Columbia Gas’ energy and money saving programs. The Home Energy Checkup is available at http://columbiagasohio.com/checkup.

Here are some other quick fixes for savings impact.

· Buy, install, and use a programmable thermostat or set your thermostat back five degrees while you’re asleep or away from your home for eight hours or more. For each degree lower that the thermostat is set in winter, energy costs decrease by up to three percent. If you don’t yet have a programmable thermostat, buy one from a local hardware or home improvement store or from Columbia Gas of Ohio’s online e-store at www.columbiagasohio.com/e-store and get a $25 rebate.

· Buy a high efficiency furnace or boiler. They use 15 percent less energy than standard models saving homeowners money on their utility bills. Rebates are available for certain models.

· If your home was built before 1975, schedule a home energy audit now before winter hits. An energy audit can identify ways to help you save up to 30 percent on your utility bills.
